Reported apartment fire found to be unfounded

As discussed during the dispatch call, fire crews were dispatched to a possible apartment fire near a Perry Street residential complex and East Fourteenth in Springfield. Multiple callers reported black smoke and a possible burning structure, but later information suggested a large burn or garbage pile with nearby recreational vehicles. Firefighters searched the building’s exterior areas and were unable to find any active fire or smoke, and the units eventually cleared the scene.
