Two-car crash with big rig causes major injuries

Two people in a car rear-ended a large truck at high speed near Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. The front of the car had major damage with the passenger area pushed in several feet. Both people in the front seats were wearing seat belts and had been drinking alcohol. One was a 21-year-old man with facial injuries and pain in his neck, head, and shoulder. There were no other obvious injuries and no known medical history, allergies, or medications. Both patients were awake, breathing on their own, and had similar levels of consciousness. They were being checked and transported for further care.
