still safer than cars. plane crashes are wayyyyy down over previous decades - the difference is social media scaring people by spreading the news like wildfire and people who are ignorant on aviation, get scared and panic.
also, an emergency on a plane is not the same as a crash. pilots are free to declare an emergency for anything - it could be that he hit a bug and it got stuck in his airspeed indicator. or one crawled into his altimeter and there is no danger to anyone on a clear day like today.
