Fire crew checks reported field fire outside city

Firefighters were sent to a reported brush fire in a field near Gardner Avenue in Lubbock. Callers reported heavy fire and people standing near the flames. Crews reached the area behind a business and found the fire was a controlled burn in a pit outside the city limits. The people on scene had fire extinguishers, and the burn was under control, so firefighters did not need to take further action.
